Taha Malik talks about the response to Laal Kabootar OST
In a recent interview with Instep, Laal Kabootar director Kamal Khan had explained that only two of the four songs from the original soundtrack, produced by Taha Malik, were released prior to the film’s release to keep the element of mystery alive. Since releasing, the critically acclaimed film has unveiled its complete soundtrack. And it’s one of the strongest OSTs to release, this year.
The film, starring Mansha Pasha and Ahmed Ali Akbar, along with a strong supporting cast, is about Karachi but not a fantasy island but much more real, violent, intense, brutal.
As for the OST, it features Mai Dhai, Taha Malik, Sanam Marvi, Jabar Abbas and Zoe Viccaji, and so far is the soundtrack of the year.
As Taha Malik tells Instep, the response to the songs has mostly been positive. “Suspiciously, [the response] has been good,” Taha Malik relates. “People seem to like it. I see one comment here and there, which is pure hate but overall the response to the OST as well as the film has been very positive, encouraging for sure.”
In between commercial work, Taha Malik is also doing two songs for Saqib Malik’s upcoming film Baaji but chose to remain mum when probed further.
As for what’s next for Taha Malik, he notes, “There are a couple of other things which I can’t talk about yet.”
He adds: “Kostal is just a name I use for business. I don’t get the time. I’m using my own name now. That’s been the case for a while. Kostal might comeback, I don’t know. ‘Jaan Jaaye’ was a longtime ago.”
